Consumption in supermarkets grew 1.6% in 2022 but stagnated in December

Sales in supermarkets accumulated a growth of 1.6% in 2022, although in the last month of last year they registered a decrease of 2% in the year-on-year comparison, and a fall of 5.1% compared to November 2022, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC). On the other hand, in the large shopping centers, the accumulated of 2022 reflected an increase of 35.1% compared to the previous year, while sales in wholesale self-services registered a decrease of 0.6% compared to 2021. According to the Indec, sales at the show registered an increase of 95.2% and totaled $ 349,116 million, while online registered a year-on-year variation of 107.5% and accumulated $ 10,117 million. Likewise, the average ticket was $ 4,573, 79.3% above the previous year. On the other hand, credit cards were the means of payment that grew the most in the year, with an increase of 108.4%, to $ 131,297 million; followed by debit, which registered a year-on-year variation of 107.9% and accumulated $ 115,221 million in 2022.In December, total sales at current prices for the month, surveyed in the Supermarket Survey, totaled $ 359,733.1 million, representing an increase of 95.5% over the same month of the previous year.
