Sampaoli was presented at Flamengo: “It was my plan A, above Europe”

Jorge Sampaoli, the former coach of the Argentine National Team, was officially presented as the new coach of Flamengo until December 2025 and revealed that the reigning Copa Libertadores champion was his plan A, despite having other offers from Europe. I am very grateful for the opportunity to come to this great club. There were many opportunities to be here, but it finally came to fruition. For me, right now, it was my plan A. I had offers from Europe and elsewhere, but I decided to be here. On this occasion, all parties agreed and it could be done,” Sampaoli explained at a press conference. The former coach of Sevilla of Spain, who left the club after the poor results, will face a series of important commitments in which he must reverse the situation after the team harvested several consecutive defeats. “Because of my characteristic, I don’t plan to prioritize anything, I just think about each game and each competition. We are going to do our best to try to win. For me, the most important thing is this, winning, the badge, the shirt and what it represents. Whether it’s a friendly or a final, Flamengo has to go in to give its best,” he explained. In this sense, he will try to find his best team and will not prioritize any competition despite the tight schedule he will face in the coming weeks: “Football never gives you the possibility to choose. It is much better to start a cycle, but it happened this way, so our diagnosis has to be quick and accurate. When I decided to come here it was because of the quality of the players that allowed me to put my football principles into practice,” he concluded.
