Industry: the use of installed capacity rose to 68.9% in April

The utilization of the installed capacity of the industry rose to 68.9% in April, a higher figure from the same month last year (67.1%) and the highest level since November 2022, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC). This is the highest level for an April since the start of the series in 2016. In this way, in year-on-year terms it marked an increase of 1.8 percentage points. With this data, the industrial installed capacity accumulates a growth of 2.0 percentage points in the first four months of the year. On the other hand, the sectoral blocks with levels of utilization of installed capacity higher than the general level are petroleum refining (86.8%), basic metal industries (82%), chemical substances and products (77%), paper and cardboard (74.6%) and non-metallic mineral products (72.3%). On the other hand, the sectors that were below the general level are automotive industry (66.6%), tobacco products (63.3%), food products and beverages (62.7%), metalworking except automotive (61.0%), publishing and printing (60.6%), rubber and plastic products (56.8%) and textile products (53.9%). In the fourth month of the year, in the year-on-year comparison, the main positive impact was observed in the basic metal industries, which had a level of utilization of installed capacity of 82%, higher than that registered in the same month of the previous year (68.7%).
