Morelia, Michoacán.- In Michoacán, the life expectancy of children with cancer rose to 80 percent, thanks to the fact that, with the monthly economic support granted by the Government of Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla to caring families, fewer infants abandon their treatment, which is free at the Children’s Hospital of Morelia Eva Sámano de López Mateos, This was reported in a statement.
This was pointed out by the head of the Ministry of Health of Michoacán (SSM), Elías Ibarra Torres, who said that currently the State Government serves 165 children with cancer by providing consultations, surgeries, medications, and chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions at no cost.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Health has a supply of medicines and oncological mixtures for the timely care of children with cancer, and that with the monthly support of 4 thousand pesos provided by the Ministry of Welfare (Sedebi) to caring families, transportation and food expenses are covered, so that they do not abandon their treatment.
In addition, 450 infants are kept under medical surveillance, to prevent and treat early any health problems they may present. With this action, it has been detected that the mortality rate of childhood cancer fell from 40 to 20 percent.
Due to the success of these public policies, Elías Ibarra Torres celebrated that the Morelos Plan, promoted by the governor, proposes to raise to a constitutional level the free treatment of childhood cancer, in order to reduce the mortality rate and guarantee access to quality medical services for children diagnosed with this disease.
