Secum announces the winners of the Eréndira Arts Prize

Morelia, Michoacán. – The Ministry of Culture of Michoacán (Secum) announces the winners and the winner of the Eréndira State Prize for the Arts 2023. These are Eva Yolanda Sereno Ayala, Teresita Sánchez Reyna and Alfonso Villanueva Manzo, in the fields of Traditional Arts, Theater, and Visual Arts, respectively, informed the holder Tamara Sosa Alanís.
Eva Yolanda Sereno Ayala, is a journalist recognized for the rescue, preservation, conservation and dissemination of Feather Art in Michoacán. Founder of Taller-Escuela Quetzal with more than two and a half decades of existence. It has promoted this ancestral trade and generated groups of plumajeras and plumajeros in Michoacán and several states of the country. His works have been acquired by collectors in Spain, Argentina, Switzerland and the United States.
Teresita Sánchez Reyna has more than 30 years of experience as an actress and director in the field of dramaturgy, in working with puppets and in teaching. In 2012 she was nominated for the Ariel as Best Actress for Verano de Goliath by Nicolás Pereda; role for which she had already won the Best Actress Award at the International Film Festival in Mexico City (FICC Mexico) in 2011.
In 2019 she was again nominated for the Ariel for best female co-performance for La Camarista, and was also on the shortlist to receive the Silver Goddess in 2020 for the same film. She won the best actress award at the 2022 Sundance Festival, as well as at the 20th Morelia International Film Festival for the same category, for the film “Dos estaciones”, by Juan Pablo González. She has participated in more than 40 productions of plays, as an actress and as a director.
Alfonso Villanueva Manzo is a painter, draftsman, illustrator, designer, graphic artist and muralist. He has developed an extensive pedagogical work with participation in the Michoacan universities of San Nicolas de Hidalgo (UMSNH) and Autónoma de Puebla (UAP). For the UNAM, he was a founding teacher of the Taller de Artes Plásticas de San Ildefonso.

Since 1972 he participated as an illustrator of free textbooks of the Ministry of Public Education. At the age of 37 he entered the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana (1976) under the competition protocol. He has made mural works – pictorial and mosaic – in Uruapan, at the National Academy of Medicine (National Medical Center), at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and in Managua (Nicaragua).
The Eréndira State Arts Award is a distinction promoted by the State Government since 2005, protected by official Decree of the State Executive and with operating rules endorsed by the local Congress since 2021. The designation of the winners is the responsibility of an adjudicating commission whose integration is done through notarial insaculation processes, ensuring transparency and legality.
The winners will receive from President Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla the medal, diploma and numerary prize with which the Government of Michoacán distinguishes the creators who have contributed to the aggrandizement of culture and art in the state and the country. The award ceremony will be held on October 11.
