The president of the Social Development Commission presented a series of reforms for governments to allocate a percentage for people with disabilities in their calls for admission.
Morelia, Michoacán. – With the aim of guaranteeing access to work for people with disabilities, Deputy Juan Carlos Barragán Vélez proposes a series of reforms that guarantee their inclusion in the workplace, according to a statement.
The reforms are so that the Executive, Legislative, Judicial Branches of the State, autonomous bodies and the 113 municipalities, in their job calls, have to allocate 10 percent of their workforce for people with disabilities.
“Disability is not synonymous with incapacity for work, as Poder we have the responsibility to legislate for the labor inclusion of all people,” he said.
According to the 2020 Population and Housing Census, there are 608,560 young people with some type of disability in Mexico, representing 9.8 percent of the country’s population.
According to figures from the National Program of Work and Employment for Persons with Disabilities 2021-2024, 70 percent of this group of the population is unemployed, being one of the main factors that prevented them from accessing education.
