Mexico. – Protecting the patriotic symbols, is the task of the MORENA deputy, Ana Elizabeth Ayala Leyva, she proposes to reform the laws, to punish those who dare to outrage, modify and misuse the patriotic symbols, including the national anthem.
All this is due to the constant mistakes of consecrated music artists in Mexico, who when interpreting the national anthem, change the tone or lyrics during public events and are exposed to the criticism of the listeners.
Singers of the stature of Ana Bárbara, Vicente Fernández, Jorge ‘Coque’ Muñiz or Ángela Aguilar, have succumbed to this type of errors, when this type of characters make some modification, even if it is by accident, many people scream at the sky and involve the singers in criticism.
Articles 191 and 192 of the Federal Penal Code stipulate that anyone who changes or modifies the lyrics of the Mexican National Anthem could be fined between six months and up to four years in prison or fined three thousand pesos, the final decision will be made by a judge.
What the Morena Parliamentary Group, who are the majority in the Chamber of Deputies, is proposing, is a draft decree, for which, after its approval and publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation, it would immediately enter into force.
The Morena deputy’s reform proposal states that they increased the hours of arrest from 36 to 72 and as a new sanction, up to four years in prison:
Article 191.- Anyone who insults the coat of arms of the Republic or the national flag, whether by word or deed, shall be imprisoned from six months to four years or fined ten thousand times the value of the Unit of Measurement and Update at the time the offense was committed, or both. at the judge’s discretion.
Article 192.- Anyone who makes improper use of the national coat of arms, insignia or anthem shall be imprisoned for three days to four years and fined ten thousand times the value of the Unit of Measurement and Update at the time the offense was committed.
