Dengue: Buenos Aires Ministry of Health calls for extreme prevention measures

The Buenos Aires Ministry of Health stressed the need to strengthen care to prevent dengue and avoid the increase in cases, after an upward epidemiological curve has been registered throughout the country during the last 4 weeks. This is in addition to the fact that, during the holiday period, cases may increase in the face of the mobility of the population. In this sense, he stressed that the abundance of rainfall and high temperatures generate favorable environmental conditions for the proliferation of the mosquito vector; Aedes aegypti. For this reason, he recalled that after the rainfall it is essential to empty all types of containers that accumulate water to prevent its spread. In Argentina, more than 134,000 cases have been recorded in the first 50 weeks of 2023, with 68 fatalities and the number of cases increased in the last 4 weeks. Therefore, the care of citizens must be deepened and close collaboration must be carried out with the directives issued by the Ministry of Health of the Nation and the respective provincial and municipal authorities. Measures to prevent the Aedes Aegypti mosquitoOne of the measures to prevent dengue is to eliminate unusable containers that contain water and to cover those containers that are used to store water. In this way, we restrict the places where the adult female of the dengue vector mosquito, Aedes aegypti, lays the eggs. Containers with water for daily use such as pet water bowls should be refreshed daily and the interior walls of the container washed to remove eggs placed on them. Establishments dedicated to the sale and repair of vehicle tires must keep the covers indoors to prevent water from accumulating on the covers when it rains. The authorities of municipal or private cemeteries must prevent vases from having water and the water must be replaced by sand. Those that do not have flowers should be inverted to prevent them from retaining water when it rains.
