Morelia, Michoacán.- In order to facilitate tourist visa procedures for adults over 65 years of age who have a family member who lives in the United States and whom they have not seen for a long time, the Secretariat of Migrants (Semigrante), has the Family Reunion Program (Refami), they reported in a statement.
The head of the agency, María Teresa Mora Covarrubias, indicated that the procedure is open all year round and it is very easy to integrate the groups that are formed in the municipalities.
He pointed out that it is necessary for those interested to approach the migrant liaisons, directors or councilors, located in the municipal presidencies, or in their case, go to the offices of the Secretariat of Migrants, located at 230 Colegio Militar Street, in the Chapultepec Norte neighborhood, in Morelia, Michoacán, to be advised on the issue.
The requirements to access the program are: be 65 years of age or older, be a resident of Michoacán, have a direct family member in the United States, fill out the forms of the state agency, not have a visa denial in the last six months prior to the application, have not visited the neighboring country irregularly, have a passport valid for at least two years, medical certificate, signature of responsive letter and payment of $185 to the U.S. embassy.
Mora Covarrubias made it clear that no server of the Secretariat of Migrants, nor the migrant liaisons or directors in the municipalities, will be able to make an additional charge for the procedure, since it is totally free.
In addition, he said, older adults are accompanied during appointments to the Applicant and Consular Service Center.
During 2023, the Semigrante managed 6,500 tourist visas, of which more than 2,000 were delivered to older adults from various parts of the state, since the first days of this year the delivery of the document to the beneficiaries continues.
