The Railway Union against privatisations: “The railway is not for sale”

In a statement issued by the Greater Buenos Aires West branch and supported by the body of delegates of the Sarmiento Line, the Railway Union reported on the call for a press conference scheduled for this Monday at 9 a.m. in the hall of the Once station. At this meeting, the protest actions that will be carried out on Wednesday 24 within the framework of the “defense of the service and against privatization” will be announced. Under the slogan “The railway is not for sale”, the Railway Union calls for the unity of workers and users to strike and mobilise in defence of labour and railway rights. They invite all comrades, as well as interested users, to join the mobilization on Wednesday 24 at 12 noon at Once station.In the statement, the railway workers denounce the attempts of the Government and the company to liquidate the railway transport system, accusing them of seeking to do business with the trains. They warn that these actions would threaten jobs and harm users, recalling similar episodes that occurred in the 1990s.As part of its strategy of resistance, the Railway Union is calling for a general assembly on Tuesday, January 30, at 2 p.m., at the combative Haedo railway station. In this space, railway workers will discuss the steps to be taken in the fight against the privatisation of the service and the defence of their labour rights. The Railway Union reaffirms its commitment to the defense of the rail transport system and calls on society as a whole to join this cause that they consider vital for the well-being of Argentine railway workers and users.
