The government postponed gas tariff increases to March

Gas rates will finally rise in March, despite the fact that the increase was scheduled for the month of February after the public hearings held on January 8, as defined by the National Government.Despite the fact that the Ministry of Energy has everything ready to apply the increase, the agency summoned the distribution companies last week to anticipate some modifications in the planned increase scheme. In this sense, there is still no indication of the new tariff schedule. However, this delay would not be repeated in the case of electricity, a sector for which the corresponding public hearing was also held last week and whose new tariff schedule would see the light of day imminently. One of the points under analysis is whether the energy basket to be determined according to the different areas of the country will mean the repeal of Law 27,637 that provided for the extension of the cold zone regime, in force until December 31, 2031, which recognizes up to 50% of the tariff tables for gas in networks or in bottles. Likewise, the continuity of the benefit received by the most vulnerable users of natural gas, which are those who do not have access to networks and use bottles of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), contemplated in the Home Program, which consists of a direct subsidy that is paid through Anses, is under question. The definitions that will give rise to the determination of subsidies and their beneficiaries will be the subject of a public hearing.
