Pullaro: “I think Milei, having minorities in Congress, should deepen the dialogue”

Maximiliano Pullaro, governor of Santa Fe, responded on Wednesday to the accusations of the national government that, through an official statement, described provincial leaders as “traitors” and “extortionists”, after the fall of the session in the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation where the Omnibus Law was discussed. He assured that he will not accompany “a reform that will be carried out in Santa Fe’s production.” In the official statement, the national government blamed provincial leaders for the fall of the session in the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation, where the Omnibus Law was discussed. To this, Pullaro responded: “We have a commitment and a social contract with Santa Fe and we have always been very clear in that sense: we are going to defend the interests of the province and, under no circumstances, are we going to accompany an increase in withholdings from the countryside or industry, because that, clearly, is going to discourage consumption and will cause losses of sources of work.” We agree that the State must be efficient, that it must reduce the fiscal deficit and, from that place, we accompany and also make efforts in the province. But under no circumstances are we going to accompany a reform that takes away the production of Santa Fe, because that was also our commitment to work. As I said yesterday to Minister (of Economy, Luis) Caputo and Minister (of the Interior, Guillermo) Francos, we are willing to dialogue to find solutions to the fiscal deficit and reduce inflation levels; And our province also has to have sufficient resources to provide the necessary services and the works that we have to carry out,” said the Santa Fe governor. I believe that the president and the government of La Libertad Avanza, having minorities in the Chamber of Deputies and Senators, should deepen the dialogue. We are willing to talk; We will never attack anyone or belittle a political position. Democracy is building consensus and listening to the other,” said the provincial president. I’m not going to give in to the defense of the production of the province of Santa Fe,” Pullaro ratified and explained: “Imagine if they put withholdings on the industry as the national government intended. There are 760 companies that are exporting and we will probably lose markets and we will not be able to conquer others, in addition to the fact that employees may be laid off. If withholdings are increased from the countryside, it is likely that this will lead to disinvestment. And the chacareros, who are not the big landowners as perhaps the national government understands; They are producers of 40, 50, 100 hectares. I can’t go along with that in any way. There are many alternatives to get out of this situation.” In reference to President Milei’s statements regarding alleged pressure from governors on the deputies of their provinces to vote against articles of the Omnibus Law, Pullaro was categorical: “That is not correct. Our deputies are never going to vote in favor of the retentions,” he said, and recalled that “the Santa Fe legislators, at least those of my party, voted absolutely everything, except for an article that had to do with state companies. In addition, we understand that, ideologically, the deputies have a life of their own, it is not that the governor sends them.”
