Amnesty International Argentina issued a harsh statement against Milei’s government

This Tuesday will mark Milei’s 100th day and Amnesty International’s Argentinian headquarters analysed the key points of the first months of his mandate. In that sense, he warned about “confrontation and hatred as the rule,” among other aspects of the libertarian administration. The published report has three items that highlight the main axes on which he based his actions as president of the Nation: “confrontation and hatred as a rule”, “pensioners, a punished sector” and the “administration of social conflict”. The executive director of Amnesty International Argentina, Mariela Belski, said that there is “concern” in the entity or in the direction taken by the government.  “Despite the short time that has elapsed, we note with concern the profound impact that policies have had in recent months on people’s lives and rights,” said Belski.Regarding the use of confrontation and hatred as a rule, Amnesty International understands that the use of the term “caste” or “the same as always” generates “expressions that include speeches and insults that incite aggression and that promote the ‘friend-enemy’ dynamic.” According to Belski, the social network X “became Milei’s preferred tool” where “accusations” are made (as in the case of the legislators who voted against the DNU) and “accusations.” On the other hand, this analysis shows that “retirees are neither a sector nor an age segment” but that during the last three months “they have lost purchasing power, peace of mind and dignity”. To conclude, the report analyzed the relationship that the Executive Branch has with the permanent protests of different sectors, noting that “the general pauperization of the economy and the attacks on those who expose voices of dissent lead to social conflict.” This harsh reality cannot be overturned, no matter how much repression and restrictions are imposed. When protest happens, it is because the tension generated by the conflict is unsustainable. Hunger cannot be answered with an iron fist,” he concluded.
