Quirós spoke about the dengue outbreak and said that 70% of the cases in CABA “are asymptomatic”

After several weeks where dengue cases continue to rise throughout the country, the Minister of Health of Buenos Aires, Fernán Quirós, pointed out that 70% of the cases “are asymptomatic” and gave some details of the current situation of the City around the historical outbreak of the disease and the collapsed guards throughout the country. We have to adapt to the physical structures of the subject. At this time, for dengue cases, the same centers that were used for the Covid-19 pandemic are operating,” Quirós detailed. In addition, the official added: “The most important thing is to detect the severity. The disease generates a lot of fever and if there is not good hydration the situation can worsen, only when this symptom goes down do the other symptoms that generate concern appear.” In this sense, he reported that “70% of the cases are asymptomatic”, so the long lines at hospitals are worrying given the high number of positives. Regarding the tests in the Federal Capital, the minister indicated that biochemical certification is not essential since a diagnosis can be obtained by epidemiological link from the symptoms and place where the case was confirmed: “There are also blood tests, PCR and through antibodies in the plasma.” It is important to say that it is a mild disease but when symptoms appear, it generates discomfort even in bed. You have to be reassured that the second time you have dengue, it is documented that the severity increases, but always in the ranges of less than 1%,” he clarified. Similarly, the official stressed that this year there are more serious cases in the City due to the increase in cases: “This 2024 there is the circulation of the D2 serotype.” Fernán Quirós on the dengue vaccineReferring to the City’s position on the application of the dengue vaccine, he said: “We are governed by the opinion of the experts of the National Commission on Immunizations (CoNain), who are them. They said in December that the vaccine has only been around for a year and has been tested on children and young people aged 4 to 18 where its safety and efficacy were clearly shown, which is why it has been approved in many places. But in people over 60 years of age it is not documented and it is not yet known if the WHO recommends it for endemic areas such as northern Argentina or epidemic areas such as Buenos Aires.” And he added: “I think it is very important, due to this debate on the vaccine, that in these weeks and months scientific information is collected on the places where it has been applied and to be able to have a very clear position for Argentina to prepare for the next cycle.”
If you feel fever, muscle aches, headache or discomfort behind the eyes, nausea, and vomiting, it is recommended to go immediately to the nearest health center to receive the appropriate treatment.
