Elías Ibarra Trusts IEM to Punish Electoral Violations – MonitorExpresso.com

Morelia, Michoacán. – The Secretary of Government of Michoacán, Elías Ibarra Torres, trusted in the actions of the electoral authorities, so that in the use of their autonomy, they can define whether the principles of neutrality are being violated in the contest. This was in response to a question at a press conference, after the Electoral Institute of Michoacán (IEM) issued precautionary measures against the mayor of Morelia, Alfonso Martínez Alcázar, so that he would adhere to electoral regulations, in his capacity not only as mayor but also as a candidate for reelection, once he himself decided not to leave office. Ibarra Torres commented that meeting the goals of a candidacy generates stress, “without a doubt it is intense, political stress arises, but it will be the electoral authorities with their autonomy, obligations and responsibilities who define if there is any type of violation,” he said. It should be recalled that these precautionary measures were the result of a complaint filed by two interested parties, one of them the electoral representation of Morena, with the argument that the mayor was using the public resources of the city council to promote his image. At the time, the mayor said that he is respectful of the determinations of the authorities and that even when he abides by the same resolutions, he would also resort to his right to challenge the decision.
