The government claimed convertibility to send a message to the opposition

In the midst of negotiations over the omnibus law and DNU 70/23 that deregulates the economy, the national government vindicated the Convertibility Law to send a message to the opposition. At the beginning of his press conference at Casa Rosada, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni recalled that 33 years ago one of the flagship measures of Carlos Menem’s presidency was enacted. “It united a large part of the opposition political arc and made it possible to get out of the hyperinflationary scheme that was being experienced and many years of growth and stability,” he said. Certain that even without the support of Congress, the government is achieving “fantastic things,” the official urged the most intransigent opposition to review its position against the ruling party: “It is a good memory of the enactment of the Convertibility Law and the opposition support of that time, and the change that that law meant. Because imagine, if we are having great results, what could happen if the opposition understands the moment that Argentina is going through and where the country wants to go.” The government will cancel 15,000 contracts of public employees and suspend 11,000 cooperativesAt this morning’s press conference, Adorni also clarified that finally there will be 15,000 contracts of state employees that will be terminated at the end of the month, and not 70,000, as announced yesterday by President Javier Milei. The rest, the spokesperson added, will be renewed for three months while the audit ordered by the Chief of Staff continues. On the other hand, he reported that the Ministry of Human Capital, headed by Sandra Pettovello, will deregister more than 11,000 cooperatives after detecting multiple irregularities. In addition, it will suspend the operation of those created between 2020 and 2022 and inspect another 4,300 registered last year.” The cooperatives went from 9,978 to 23,836 in recent years, it is another fund that disappears and that Argentines stop supporting,” said Adorni.
