The government receives the CGT for the first time

Representatives of the national government will hold their first meeting with the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) on Wednesday, with the aim of shoring up central points of the Bases bill and defusing the threat of a new measure of force. The meeting will take place this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and is the first official “face-to-face” meeting between the Executive Branch and the workers’ federation since the beginning of President Javier Milei’s term in office. Argentinian News, two of the members of the triumvirate that leads the workers’ federation, Héctor Daer, of Health, and Carlos Acuña, general secretary of the Union of Workers and Employees of Service Stations, would attend the meeting at Casa Rosada. On behalf of the government, the meeting will be led by the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, and the Secretary of Labor, Julio Cordero. The third member of the Cegetista leadership, Pablo Moyano, will not attend Balcarce 50. The assistant secretary of the Truckers is one of the most critical union members of President Javier Milei’s administration, and in the next few hours, he could announce a 48-hour strike to demand the homologation of the sector’s parity agreement. Sources close to the union leader said that despite the contacts between the union leadership and the Casa Rosada, “the truckers’ strike is a reality.” Regarding a possible general strike, the most combative sector of the CGT, headed by Moyano, remains firm in its position of not lowering the measure of force that they are promoting despite the proposals that the government could bring to today’s meeting. The bridges between the Executive and the CGT were dynamited after the implementation of DNU 70/23, whose labor chapter is being held up by the Justice. In turn, the government’s decision not to homologate the collective bargaining agreements signed by truckers contributed to this tension.
