Quintela met with Francos: he agreed to the completion of works and rejected the May Pact

The governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, met today at Casa Rosada with the chief of staff, Guillermo Francos, to agree on the completion of paralyzed works in the province. During the meeting, the Peronist leader reaffirmed his critical stance towards the libertarian administration and confirmed his non-participation in the signing of the May Pact, scheduled for July 9. Quintela, one of the governors most critical of the national government, joined the agreements already signed by other provincial governors to resume and finish the works in execution. During the day, Francos also discussed issues of works with the governor of Santiago del Estero, Gerardo Zamora, and there are already 17 governors who have signed these agreements. In statements to journalists at the Casa Rosada, Quintela highlighted the dialogue held with Francos, but was firm in his rejection of Milei’s policies: “In these seven months there was no measure that benefits the people,” and then, on the May Pact he said that “I am not going to go because there are 10 points that were imposed, without prior negotiations.” He also explained that the works will be restarted with significant progress in their execution, including road works, construction of schools and early childhood centers. However, he clarified that it still remains to be defined how these works will be financed, pointing out that the province will be able to contribute very little. In relation to the national management, Quintela said: “The balance is that in seven months there is not a single proposal for the benefit of society, retirees have frozen their income. I have my critical position towards the Government, I hope that they can modify their policies to benefit the people.” Regarding the recent approval of the Basic Law and the fiscal package in Congress, he considered that “they are harmful laws.” Likewise, he praised Francos, highlighting his receptive dialogue, and as for Milei, he explained that he only spoke with him once, when he received all the governors at the Casa Rosada.
