Accompanied by the state Secretary of Health, Lázaro Cortés Rangel and the general director of the National Medical Center, Lecsy Macedo Calvillo, the governor commented that the experience shared by the hospital’s specialists reinforces the information that is available on the services that will be offered in the public sector of Michoacán. He shared that currently the State Center for Oncological Care of Morelia provides treatment to 80 patients daily and with the new equipment it will increase to 120 per day. day, which will allow the waiting list to be lowered, which is currently 130 in the institution. In addition, millimetric tumors can be detected and radiated without damage to healthy tissue and vital organs, which helps the patient to have fewer side effects. The company that will install the equipment commented that by working together the linear accelerator and the PET Scan, preliminary studies can be carried out analyzing the tumor with exact data on where to radiate the patient. The president stressed that with the new equipment, Michoacán will be the second institution in the country to offer both services, since only the National Institute of Pediatrics has a linear accelerator and PET Scan. While, of the state health sectors, only Chihuahua, Veracruz, Sinaloa and the State of Mexico have a linear accelerator, as well as the IMSS and ISSSTE in several states.
