Brian Fernández expressed his desire to play in the First Division: “I would like to return”

Brian Fernandez, the Almirante Brown striker, is rebuilding his career after facing various personal and professional difficulties. From his beginnings in the Yapeyú neighborhood of Santa Fe to his debut in Defensa y Justicia, his path has been marked by ups and downs. In a chat with Olé, Fernández told journalist Giuliana Pasquali about his fight against drug addiction, overcoming his challenges and his reinvention in soccer. He began by describing his first experience with “darkness” in 2015, when he tested positive in an anti-doping test playing for Racing. “When I tested positive for the anti-doping control on River’s field. That’s when my world fell apart.” Then, he spoke of his method of dealing with negative thoughts: “Thank God I’m happy to be able to attend a church and I’m not ashamed. I learned to trust myself.” As for the stigma he has faced in his career, he admitted: “Every time you arrive at a club you feel the stigma that surrounds you. I visualize people well and I see where I go, who has more confidence in me and there I build my little house. Once I build it is when I start scoring goals and the dressing room begins to change”. He also reflected on the importance of addiction treatments. “The first tool you have is the phone. Know what to do with it, choose well who to communicate with. Before I always had them, I just didn’t use them. It’s wrong to answer it like that, but I didn’t want to use them. I wanted to commit what I was about to commit,” he explained. About his relationship with his family, Fernández shared his pain at being away from his children: “I cry a lot. I cry because I have many beautiful memories and I want to have them with me. It’s hard for me to understand that they have things to do, but I can’t ask for anything more than to enjoy them the day I see them again,” and continued with a thank you to his brothers Nicolás and Leandro: “They told me that they were going to be with me and not to forget that I have brothers who are going to be there for me. Today I send Leandro and Uvita a message and they respond to me, because I am their brother.” And, finally, on his present at Almirante Brown and his desire to return to the First Division, he declared that “football is a very important tool for my life. It is the ignition key of the car. In Almirante, I found a coaching staff like Bazán Vera’s that caresses my heart, that is with me, that takes care of my person”, and that “my goal is that between now and December I have to arrive calm and well. Obviously I would like to be in the First Division again because I consider myself a player to be there”.
