Controversy at the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: drag queen presentation of the “Last Supper” criticized

On Friday at the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which lasted four hours and featured various presentations by artists such as Celine Dion and Lady Gaga, he presented criticisms regarding the presentation of Philippe Katerine and Barbara Butch, accompanied by figures from the LGBTQI+ community imitating Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Last Supper”. Philippe Katerine, a Spanish singer, appeared painted blue and almost naked on a tray on the table, representing Dionisio. “The interpretation of the Greek god Dionysus makes us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings,” the organizers of the event said from their X account. Marion Maréchal, niece of Marine Le Pen, a far-right member of the European Parliament, strongly criticized the performance. “To all Christians in the world who attend the ceremony #Paris2024 and feel insulted by this travesty drag queen of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that speaks, but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation.” Previously, controversy had been generated by the presence of Aya Nakamura at the opening of the event. Les Natifs, a French far-right collective, had published a photo that read “this is Paris, not the market of Bamako (the capital of Mali, where the singer was born)” seeking to desist from attending.
