Club America announced on Thursday that Ecuadorian player Renato ‘N’, accused of family violence and attempted femicide, against his wife, is separated from their ranks.
“Club America reiterates its absolute and daily commitment to help eradicate gender-based violence and promote a culture of respect for women. In this regard, he strongly disapproves of the actions carried out by Mr. Renato,” the club said in a statement.
Elsewhere in its message, the Club indicated that after this fact of violence throughout the year it will deploy several campaigns in support of women, and that all of its first-team players will receive from specialists gender-based training courses, “situation of violence against women and new masculinities”.
After being arrested, Renato was given unofficial pre-trial detention, pending the hearing in which he would define whether or not he is bound to prosecution.
