translated from Spanish: Morena proposes that INEGI enter the houses and tax the wealth

The president of Morena, Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar, proposed a constitutional reform that allows INEGI to enter the homes of citizens to review their real estate heritage, in order to measure the concentration of wealth.
He proposed that the agency also have the legal power to review people’s financial assets, in coordination with the Tax Administration Service (SAT).
The Brownist leader argued that INEGI should submit a report every two years that accounted for each person’s wealth.

He added that the measurement of mexican families’ income and expenditure by deciles, as INEGI currently does, was no longer sufficient.
“The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) must have the constitutional power to measure the concentration of wealth in our country. We have billions of dollars that constitute a totally unobserved wealth.
It’s no longer just about realizing the income and spending of families and individuals. Measuring poverty in Mexico is a major breakthrough (but now it is urgently demanded to also measure inequality and the concentration of wealth,” he said in a statement.
“Information for deciles is good. But it is necessary to break down the composition of the X (tenth) decille and see the components and strata that make up it. INEGI must enter, without any legal impediment, to review the real estate and financial assets of all persons. Every two years you must account for the results of all the assets that each Mexican has. INEGI must also have access to the accounts of the Tax Administration Service and all financial and stock information of individuals.”

Ramírez Cuéllar said that this proposal arose from an analysis carried out by Morena and specialists in politics and economics in the face of the health emergency and with the aim of forging new rules of coexistence based on well-being.
The party leader also proposed a make-up reform based on fiscal escalation and strengthening the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) to ensure that the harm is remedied to consumers affected by market distortions.
