The InE Prerogatives and Political Parties Commission reported that MP Mario Delgado will be the new president of Morena, after beating Porfirio Muñoz Ledo in the new poll applied to renew the leadership of the party.
Delgado, who is currently coordinator of Morena’s bench in San Lázaro, scored 58.6 points in the survey, against 41.4 points from Deputy Muñoz Ledo, according to the results delivered by three demososcopic companies.
The general secretariat of the party was left to Senator Citlalli Hernández, according to the results of an earlier survey released by the INE on October 9.
The new leadership, with Delgado in the presidency and Hernandez in the general secretariat, will be in office until August 31, 2023.
After learning about the result, Delgado, who is in confinement after contracting COVID-19, said through a video that he will propose conducting surveys in the states to integrate the local Executive Committees; he also called on Muñoz Ledo to collaborate with him on his way to the 2021 federal election.
Patricio Ballados, director of Prerogatives and Political Parties at the INE, reported that the surveying of Morena has cost around 16 million pesos, which were paid with the regular budget allocated monthly to the political institute.

For this latest survey, three demoscopic companies – Parametry, Demotechnics 2.0 and Covarrubias and Associates – conducted 4,000 729 interviews in 450 electoral sections between Morena militants and supporters between October 16 and 22.
During the presentation of results, the Prerogatives Committee stressed that, this time, the confidence intervals obtained by both candidates did not cross, unlike the past survey, in which there was a technical tie between the two.
The lower and upper limit obtained by Delgado was 56.3 and 60.9 points, respectively, while Muñoz Ledo’s was 39.1 and 43.7.
The chairwoman of the Prerogatives Commission, Councillor Beatriz Zavala, stated that the results will be sent to the federal Electoral Court to declare the sentence in which she ordered the NSO to conduct the process of renewing the morenist leadership through surveys.
Once the Superior Chamber validates the result, Zavala added, the INE will enroll Delgado and Hernandez in the record books as president and general secretary of Morena.
On proceedings punishing both Delgado and Muñoz Ledo’s improper propaganda that remain open, Councillor Zavala said her outcome will not affect the former’s triumph.
Delgado announces tour and surveys in states
Morena’s elected leader called for party unity after more than a year of the internal struggle for party leadership.
“In 2021 we are ahead of the biggest electoral challenge in Mexico’s history. We cannot do you a favor to the right of being divided or abstracted by internal conflicts. From today that must be in the past,” he said in a video.
“We need to nominate the best men and women to represent the people in the more than 20,000 positions that will be held next year across the country.”

The still coordinator of Morena’s federal MPs announced that he will begin a tour of the interior of the country once he recovers from COVID to form voting defense committees for the 2021 election.
“Once my quarantine and recovery of COVID is complete, we will embark on a national tour and begin the formation of ‘Fourth Transformation’ advocacy committees throughout the national territory immediately. In addition, open surveys to elect state representatives of committees where there will be gubernatura elections,” he said.
Delgado asked Muñoz Ledo to join a new Advisory Council of leadership that would enter into force from January 2021.
“Porfirio, you and I have worked together and were very effective in the House to advance the ‘Fourth Transformation’ agenda,” he said.

For his part, Porfirio Muñoz Ledo shared a video in which he rejects the result and calls on his supporters to express themselves and not accept the process of choice.
Muñoz Ledo claimed that the survey was done outside the law and by private companies against which they have always protested “because they mean the triumph of money over principles.”
“They have not won us in any way, in us, in all the militancy reside the final decision, I invite you toxpresen, reject the purchase of politics for money and sharpen our Morena party’s project,” he said.
