translated from Spanish: They give favorable opinion to Moderna; will advance vaccination: Health

The New Molecules Committee of the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) issued an opinion favorable to Moderna’s vaccine against COVID-19.
The vaccine developed in the United States received a first unanimous favorable opinion, a step prior to authorization for emergency use.
If advanced, this would be the seventh COVID vaccine approved in Mexico for emergency use.

“The favorable or unspeavorable technical opinion is issued based on the scientific and medical evidence presented, and is integrated by the laboratories to their records. The Health Authorization Commission is pending the request for emergency use of the vaccine,” he said in a statement.

This will allow us to use the doses that the U.S. government will send to our country and thus accelerate the National Vaccination Plan against #COVID19. https://t.co/j03QpGIqbA

The undersecretary of Health, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, said that this favorable opinion “will allow us to use the doses that the US Government will send to our country and thus accelerate the National Vaccination Plan against #COVID19.”
This, a week after the United States confirmed it will send 3.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine and another 5 million of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Mexico, for a total of 8.5 million doses.
Last April, Cofepris granted emergency use of the COVAXIN vaccine, developed by pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech International Limited, in India.
It also authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech laboratory’s COVID vaccine for those over the age of 12 in June. However, neither of these two vaccines has yet been 1118 in Mexico.
So far, 77 million 573,466 vaccines against COVID have been applied in Mexico; 348 thousand 15 administered this August 15.
The doses that have been applied correspond to 54 million 532 thousand 420 people; 61% of the adult population in Mexico.
