Bronco is remanded in custody for abuse of authority; will remain imprisoned for electoral crimes

The former governor of Nuevo León Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, the Bronco, managed to get a judge to withdraw the measure of preventive detention for the case he faces of abuse of authority, derived from the confiscation of assets against the company that operated the Ecovía in the state.
According to a report by ABC Noticias, the Bronco’s lawyer, Gabriel Eduardo García, said that after the review hearing, the control judge modified the measures by considering his state of health after a second surgery performed on May 10.
“Obviously the engineer was released for what he does to that cause of that file, however, there is the issue of preventive detention in the other folder for the same reason that we will request the same in the coming days and added to the fact that he still can not leave the hospital because he is being treated and evaluated medically, “- the defender explained.

Rodríguez Calderón also faces charges of electoral crimes for allegedly using Nuevo León government officials to collect the signatures of citizen support he needed to compete as an independent candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2018.
The former governor’s lawyer also does not foresee that the Bronco will obtain house arrest due to the medical treatment he receives.
“For now he will remain in the hospital, but he gets his freedom for what he does to the Ecovía folder, and the process will obviously continue, but he is free,” he said.
