DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – Saudi Arabia has contributed $ 100 million to the northeast of Syria for “stabilization projects” in areas that were in the hands of the State Islamic Group or and are now under the control of forces backed by the United States, according to Saudi authorities. The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington indicated that the money “will save lives, will help to facilitate the return of displaced Syrians and help ensure that ISIS may not re-emerge as a threat to Syria, their neighbors, or plan attacks against the community International”. ISIS is an alternate acronym for the Group State Islamico.el money will be earmarked for projects in agriculture, education, road works, removal of debris and water services for the region, which is now controlled largely by the Syrian democratic forces supported by the United States.
“This important contribution will play a crucial role in the efforts of the Coalition for revitalizing communities, as Raqqa, who have been devastated by the terrorists of ISIS,” the Embassy said in a statement. The Syrian city of Raqqa was the seat of the self-proclaimed “caliphate” of Islamic State group until it was released last year by the United States-backed forces.
The Syrian democratic Council, mostly Kurdish, is the political wing of the Syrian democratic forces, who control vast sections of the North. In may, Syrian President Bashar Assad threatened to attack areas held by the group.
