After President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that it was not known what had happened to the $207 million seized 12 years ago to Chinese-born Mexican businessman Zhenli Ye Gon, Felipe Calderón replied “there is other data”.
On his Twitter account, the former Mexican staff said that the money seized from Ye Gon was spent on the construction of 335 “New Life” Addiction Prevention and Treatment Centers in the country.

“I understand you said nothing had ever been done about it, but fortunately, there is other data,” he wrote.

This morning, the president said he will investigate the whereabouts of those resources that were seized from the Mexican businessman of Chinese origin.
He stressed that the fate of the money seizing crime and organized crime was not reported before, contrary to what is happening now.
“I just sent, ordered an investigation to be done as far as I can to know where the money was because imagine that the president of Mexico does not know where the money was. I just ordered that investigation,” he said.
Zhenli Ye Gon was arrested in the United States on October 18, 2016 and subsequently extradited to Mexico where he faces a number of charges, most of them for organized crime and money laundering.
