With the support of director Guillermo del Toro, six Mexican children were awarded at the International Mathematics Competition held in South Africa from 1 to 6 August.
Mateo Iván Latapí Acosta, an elementary school student from Mexico City, received first place in his class, so he returned home with a gold medal.

In the primary category, Sebastián Montemayor Trujillo, of the state of Nuevo León, was awarded second place, while Luis Angel Gabriel Jiménez Iturbide, from Tabasco, and Javier Caram Quirós, from Mexico City, received honorable mention.
As a team, the youngsters who contested the high school category won first place, and in addition, Leonardo Mikel Cervantes Mateos of Mexico City, was awarded the second place and the silver medal.

For his part, Jacobo, originally from Yucatan, along with Karla Rebeca Munguía Romer, of Sinaloa, and Luis Eduardo Martínez Aguirre, from Nuevo León, won the third place and returned to Mexico with a bronze medal.

The eight young steres who participated in the International Competition were supported to travel to South Africa by the Mexican director Guillermo del Toro.

On May 24, the students were contacted by Del Toro via Twitter, who, after the mexican mathematical society account asked for support to pay for the tickets of the young people and four teachers, offered to cover the plane tickets.
