Tamaulipas authorities confirmed the murder of the priest José Martín Guzmán Vega, committed on the night of this Thursday 22 August in the Ejido Santa Adelaida, in the municipality of Matamoros.
According to the Attorney General’s Office of Tamaulipas, a folder of investigation for the murder has already been initiated.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Matamoros, Eugenio Lira Rugarcía, pronounced himself for the murder, who received several stab wounds inside the parish Cristo Rey de la Paz, according to a report by the agency Notimex.

“We are confident that the competent authorities will conduct the relevant investigations to clarify the facts and do justice,” the Mexican Episcopate Conference published in a statement.

Police attack
Hours later, state authorities reported that armed subjects attacked the facilities of the Hotel Teresa in Nuevo Laredo with firearms, where state troopers remain; one element died and two more were injured.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, the subjects were placed from various points to shoot towards the rooms where the policemen who repelled the assault were located.
In a statement, the unit exposed “for several months”, the state’s Secretariat of Public Security conducts operations in the state’s major border cities to lower crime rates.
He also recalled that on August 19th there was also an aggression when they implemented in Nuevo Laredo security filters; the balance was three injured.
