translated from Spanish: Cold Front number 3 ‘lands’ in Mexico; will cause heavy rains

With the entering of The Number 3 Cold Front to mexican territory, the National Weather Service reported that in the coming hours “potential for heavy rains to intense punctual rains accompanied by electric shocks and possible hailstorms” in states such as Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Chiapas and Quintana Roo.
“The mass of cold air associated with the front will cover the north, northeast, east and center of the national territory, causing a slight drop in temperatures in the aforementioned regions, as well as the first “North” event of the season with higher wind gusts 70 km/h and 1 to 3 m swell along the Gulf of Mexico coast, Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, as well as streaks greater than 50 km/h in entities in the north and center of the Republic,” the Service detailed in a statement at 14:00 on Monday.
“On the other hand, a low pressure channel over the Yucatan Peninsula, associated with divergence in height, will cause potential for very heavy rains to intense points in the Peninsula. Finally, a strong field diverging in height over western Mexico will create the potential for showers accompanied by electric shocks in the region,” he added.
Heavy rains on very heavy points (50 to 75 liters per square meter) are expected for Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Campeche and Yucatan.
For Sonora, Sinaloa, Guanajuato and Mexico City, the forecast is for isolated rains.
The effects of the “North” event, with wind gusts greater than 70 km/h, swell of 1 to 3 meters and possible formation of sea trombas, is expected for the coast of Tamaulipas and Veracruz, Istmo and Gulf of Tehuantepec.
