Morelia, Michoacán.- Through a letter published in a state newspaper, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solorzano drew attention to the local deputy, Sandra Luz Valencia, for trying to impose the name of her father, General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, in his municipality of Origin.
The initiative with draft decree was presented by the legislator of Morena last September, and with it sought the modification of the third article of the Municipal Organic Law of Michoacán and the Organic Law of Territorial Division, to change the name of the municipal seat of Jiquilpan de Juárez to “Jiquilpan de Cárdenas”.

In her explanatory statement, Sandra Luz mentioned the general’s birth in that municipality in 1895, the rest of the 17 points was a semblance of her life.
Ingeniero Cárdenas’ response was released today in a state-spreading newspaper:
“I understand your intention and that you intend to link my father’s name to that of his homeland, but it seems to me that historically and politically it constitutes a grave misdemeanor. None of the heroes we recognize and respect in their work and in their memory is superior or better to another.”
Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas recalled that both characters are recognized and valued equally, and that his father in life honored Benito Juárez, so he mentioned that the General had disliked that his name was imposed by removing juarez’s.
That is why she asked the legislator of Morena to withdraw her initiative.
