Thousands of people gathered in Plaza Italia this afternoon, amid massive demonstrations across the country, which have almost the entire country in a state of emergency declared by the government. In the central monument to General Baquedano, the activity began early, as it was where the participants of the general strike that was called for this Wednesday, October 23, by more than twenty social organizations gathered. One of the main slogans of the strike was the removal of the military from the streets. The column of this march advanced through the Alameda to Santa Rosa, where it was stopped by police personnel. Once the march was over, Plaza Italia was the place where people gathered, to make a new demonstration, after yesterday the president, Sebastián Piñera, announced a social agenda. In parallel, mannerations occurred in the afternoon hours on Avenida Vitacura, and in Plaza’uñoa where, as usual, protesters began to gather during the afternoon. People also gathered on Avenida Apoquindo, where protesters settled in front of the Military School.
