translated from Spanish: AMLO discusses giving scholarships to use Telethon centers

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that he is discussing an agreement with the Telethon Child Rehabilitation Centers (CRIT) to grant treatment and therapy scholarships for children and adolescents with disabilities.
“Regardless of whether we like it or not, if we think it was good, it was bad, it was authentic or fake, what there is in the country are the Telethon clinics. They are the ones with the most coverage, that I do not dismiss the possibility of using these clinics by means of an agreement to make the facilities more used, because (ours) have many limitations for lack of resources,” he said.

He stated that the assessment of the agreement was made because there are cases of people with disabilities who are not older, but because of the poverty in which they are “becoming permanent”.
During his morning conference, López Obrador indicated that Telethon centers are underutilized, so the federal government would sign some kind of collaboration agreement to deliver public resources so that the population that requires it can come for treatment.
In addition, he reported that with the general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, they are already exploring the possibility of making the most of the medical equipment of the hospitals for which he proposes to perform medical operations in night shifts.
Advance in pensions
The president also reported that the Disability Welfare Pension is 81% advanced and anticipated that the social program will increase.
On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Ariadna Montiel, undersecretary of welfare, explained that one million people will be the target of care and 815,883 people have so far been served.
In addition, 77,283 adults with disabilities have been incorporated into indigenous peoples.
According to the data presented, a budget of 9.1 million pesos has been exercised in 2019 and is expected to increase to 14.2 billion by 2020.
