A scuffle at the Regional Center for Social Reintegration (Cerereso) in Cieneguillas, Zacatecas, left 16 insors dead and five injured, zacatecas Ministry of Public Security reported.
According to state authorities, the confrontation began at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in it area of coexistence of the criminal and after its report the containment protocols were activated inside the place and outside were mobilized elements of the State, Investigation and Road Safety Police.
Ismael Camberos Hernández, head of the Zacatecas Ministry of Public Security, reported that the scuffle was controlled around 5 p.m.
In one statement, the depenance detailed that 15 inmates died inside the prison and one more died while receiving medical care in a hospital.
In addition to the deceased, 5 inmates are reported injured.
The Ministry of Public Security assured an inmate that he was carrying a firearm, and three other short weapons, as well as white weapons, were also found, which were allegedly used by the inmates during the scuffle.
The inmate surprised with the weapon was made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while experts from the Zacatecano Institute of Forensic Sciences and Ministerial Police opened an investigative folder to meet those responsible for the killings and those who introduced firearms to the criminal.

The governor of Zacatecas, Alejandro Tello, lamented the death of the inmates and ordered to strengthen surveillance and reviews inside the prison.
Since yesterday, security corporations have conducted weapons review and search operations to prevent such clashes from happening again.
The Zacatecas Secretariat of Public Security added that just last Saturday night and Sunday, with full attachment to human rights, a review was carried out inside the Cerereso de Cieneguillas and the Cereso de Fresnillo, and various prohibited objects were found.
So far the local authorities have not determined the reason for the quarrel.
