translated from Spanish: Give phone line to schedule blood donation appointment and avoid disensusment by COVID-19

Although there is currently no supply in the country’s blood banks, before COVID-19 the donation has been reduced by 60 to 70% and it is necessary to continue with it to help patients, explained on Thursday the director general of the National Center for Blood Transfusion, Jorge Enrique Trejo Gómora.

Part of the preparation for the #COVID19 epidemic is to ensure the availability of blood, so today we call to donate; we must have enough. For more information see https://t.co/aUS4QPJf98 and https://t.co/55Bb9RwPXX. pic.twitter.com/xf3vQOYY05

At a press conference, Trejo Gómora noted that blood donation should continue because, despite the health emergency experienced in the country by the new coronavirus, there are many people who need blood transfusions for their treatments.
Such as patients with hemato-oncological diseases, with obstetric hemorrhage, trauma and accidents, detailed.

In this regard, it announced that actions are being implemented to, on the one hand, improve the rational use of blood, and on the other to ensure supply during the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the actions, detailed, was the implementation of a telephone line so that anyone interested in donating can call and solve any doubt, schedule an appointment and do it safely.

“This strategy is to ensure effective donor flow in blood banks (…) and to be aligned with the actions of the healthy distance,” he said.
In addition, he explained that the health sector is currently conducting plasma studies, which are obtained from the blood, to find an effective treatment for the new coronavirus.
