Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and a shorter first season (of only 20 episodes, instead of the originally planned 22), “Batwoman” already secured a second installment with a premiere date for January 2021, once again, because of the blissful virus. Kate Kane/Batwoman (Ruby Rose) had her official presentation within the Arrowverse in last season’s crossover (“Elseworlds”), and earned her own girl power single story, a lot of inclusion – we’re talking about the first LGTB+ heroine – and her close relationship with Gotham’s masked vigilante.Surprisingly, on yesterday’s day, the show’s production announced the departure of Rose, whose role will be recast for next year; a new difficulty for the series in the midst of the forty-first crucial installment to connect with its new fans.
And now, who can defend us?
Speculation did not wait and many attributed Ruby’s unthinking to some health problems. Close to the actress they assured that her medical inconveniences had nothing to do (she had two herniated discs that almost left her paralyzed), instead, the girl’s discontent with the long hours of work required by the series, which ended in frictions within the film set with the producers and her castmates. Apparently, the game’s decision was in common between Rose, The CW and the studio, Warner Bros. Television.Neither party commented to clarify what happened, but Ruby is leaving behind her first starring role after small appearances in “Orange Is the New Black”, “John Wick 2: A New Day to Kill” (John Wick: Chapter 2,2017) and “Megalodon” (The Meg, 2018), among other things.

But the most important thing is the future of the series and the masked of Gotham City. From the studio and Greg Berlanti’s production company they made it clear that Rose’s replacement will also be part of the LGBTQ community, maintaining consistency with the comic book character in its most modern version. In their television bet, Batman and Bruce Wayne have been missing for about three years and, since then, Gotham has plunged into violence and chaos. Batwoman emerges as a new heroine eager to deliver justice, although she also has to face her personal ghosts.
