After noon Health Minister Jaime Mañalich led a new balance of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
The Minsal holder departed by acknowledging that the Chilean health system is “extraordinarily demanded”, especially in the Metropolitan region, where the largest number of cases are recorded. And expressing concern about cases in other countries, Mañalich explained that the situation is delicate because the behavior of the virus is “very aggressive” and a significant proportion of those affected require hospitalization and mechanical ventilation support.
“That’s why we’re developing an important program to increase hospital capacity,” he said.
Let us remember that this morning President Sebastián Piñera inaugurated the Hospital Modular Sótero del Río, which will add 100 beds to the care network to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The fight is going to win against an enemy that affects us all,” the Health Minister said, giving the floor to the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, who delivered the update of the numbers.
3,709 new cases
In the last 24 hours there were 3,709 new cases, of which 3,343 had symptoms and 366 are asymptomatic. The number raises total contagions to 69,102.
Of the total contagion since the start of the pandemic, 28,148 people have recovered, according to health authorities.
By region, it remains the Metropolitan Region where the largest number of new cases are concentrated. “More than 80% of new cases are in MRI where we now have more than 6 million people quarantined,” said Undersecretary Daza.
The number of deaths from the disease during the last day was 45, bringing the total number of fatalities by Covid-19 to 718.
