World.- The Wuhan Institute of Virology has three live strains of bat coronavirus in its facilities, but none match covid-19, said the establishment’s director.
The institute’s director, Wang Yanyi, refuted the claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump that the disease leaked from the facility and said that while they had three strains of viruses, their greater similarity to Covid-19 only reached 79.8 percent.
And it all started when claims began to emerge that China, which is where the virus first emerged, could have purposely manufactured the virus as a biological weapon to destroy the West.
Scientists believe covid-19, which was first reported in Wuhan and killed some 340,000 people worldwide, originated in bats and could have been transmitted to people through another mammal.
In the interview filmed on May 13 but broadcast Saturday night, Wang Yanyi told state-owned broadcaster CGTN that the center had “isolated and obtained some coronaviruses from bats.” “Now we have three live virus strains … But its greater similarity to SARS-CoV-2 only reaches 79.8 percent,” he said, referring to the coronavirus strain that causes COVID-19.
Wang Yanyi continued: ‘We know that the entire SARS-CoV-2 genome is only 80% similar to that of SARS. It’s an obvious difference.
