Morelia, Michoacán.- About 3,000 restaurants reopened in Morelia, following the health contingency by the Covid-19 coronavirus, reported Alejandro Hernández Torres, president of the National Chamber of The Restaurant Industry and Seasoned Foods (Canirac) in Michoacán.
In an interview, the business leader said that about a thousand establishments remain to join the return to activities, for the most part, dedicated to the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages and food.
For their part, they add up between 200 and 250 companies in the sector that failed to reopen, after more than two months of inactivity that left them in insolvency. However, Alejandro Hernández said, “as soon as the hardest thing begins,” as the locals are working with a capacity limited to a maximum of 25 percent of their usual capacity, as well as facing a lack of confidence in consumption.
Restaurants and the like in Morelia operate with a capacity ranging from 10 to 15 percent of the regular, which is insufficient to solve the operating expenses of the business. This situation leads to the fact that the risk of permanent closure of restaurant companies has not been overcome, since even the guild will have to adapt to new working conditions, the application of security protocols and egresses that were not suspended, even though the sector lacked revenue.
“This (the risk of covid 19 spread) will not end soon and we need to build trust and implement protocols so that people can consume safely and certainly; In this way, we will help to avoid the closure of more business, our responsibility is to adapt the measures and transform according to them”, explained the president of The Canirac Michoacán.
