translated from Spanish: 10 opposition governors call for Lopez-Gatell resignation

The 10 opposition governors of the Federalist Alliance called for the resignation of Undersecretary of Health Hugo López-Gatell as they believe that their strategy to manage and contain the COVID-19 pandemic has failed.
“The Governors of 40 million Mexicans and Mexicans, we demand from the Federal Government the immediate departure of Hugo López-Gatell and to put himself at the head, an expert in the matter, with knowledge and humility to understand in all its dimension the issues of this health crisis as serious as the one we are going through,” they said in a statement.

The officials say that during Mexico’s 5 months of the pandemic the federal government has not corrected the mistakes in its health strategy which they said “has not worked and has cost the lives of tens of thousands of Mexicans.”
They add that at the forefront of the control of the epidemic there must be someone who – in addition to being a specialist in the field – is sensitive, intelligent and with a high sense of responsibility, qualities which they consider lacked by the Undersecretary of Health and spokesman for the government’s strategy against COVID-19.
They also point out that there is “erratic management of the epidemic and the lack of effective responses to stem a brutal economic decline, which has left millions of Mexican families without income.”
They accuse the federal government being politically using epidemic management, rather than privileging life, health, national unity and giving a true state response. As an example they recommend the use of the head cover, because at first López-Gatell pointed out that it should only be used by medical personnel because it did not help to contain the epidemic.
The governors of the PARTIES PAN, PRI, Movimiento Ciudadano, PRD and an independent, accuse that the federal government has tried to transfer responsibility for the management of the epidemic to state and municipal governments, “through a traffic light that has suffocated local economies, because this epidemic was never intended to be addressed in a coordinated manner and with extraordinary resources”.
The representatives who sign the statement and make up the Federalist Alliance are:
Martín Orozco Sandoval, governor of Aguascalientes.
Javier Corral Jurado, governor of Chihuahua.
Miguel Angel Riquelme Solís, governor of Coahuila.
José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez, governor of Colima.
José Rosas Aispuro Torres, governor of Durango.
Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, governor of Guanajuato.
Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, governor of Jalisco.
Silvano Aureoles Conejo, governor of Michoacán.
Jaime Heliodoro Rodríguez Calderón, governor of Nuevo León.
Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, governor of Tamaulipas.
