translated from Spanish: C-Funk and her collaboration with Josefina Fiebelkorn: “She’s very talented”

A danceable pop sound song brought together musician C-Funk and well-known actress and singer Josefina Fiebelkorn. “Poppin” is the name of the theme they have just released together and from which they already prepare a video clip that will come out soon, according to the national artist.
Despite being a lighter-minded pop theme, Cristián Moraga – A real name of C-Funk – sees a connection in the lyrics with the social unrest that manifested itself in the social outburst. “The song is about these characters who want and dream of that romantic movie in Paris, on the beach. We all have that desire to go out and get to know the world and enjoy with our loved one, but we are involved in the reality of the system in which we are, which forces us to live to work”, says the exLos Tetas about the song of his authorship.
And he explains that the lyrics, coincidentally, also connect with the current pandemic. “At some point the girl says ‘let me out, get me out of here, take me for a walk,’ things I’ve already heard from my lady, so there’s like a parallel,” she explains half a joke.
Being a funk-linked musician, where does this concern come from to releasing a song closer to pop?

I’m a lover of all music. While my specialty is funk, I like all kinds of music and as a producer I have learned to work with all kinds of music. This song has pop tints but its core is totally funk, it’s as pop like Bruno Mars, like “Uptown Funk,” that kind of pop that’s not swaying. I don’t have rolls with that, I love it and I also like that pop alleviates things a little bit. I think right now we need to ease the stress and burden we all have a little bit.
How did the collaboration occur with Josefina?

I met the Jose in musicals, because I’ve worked on several musicals. And I found her very cool, very talented in the musical part, apart from her acting and dance part, and I invited her for that. The Jose is super squeathing, she is a very good vibe friend and that I loved in her aura, in her vibe. She always has that super positive energy and I loved that of her, in what she’s doing delivers everything and that’s why I wanted to invite her. We already recorded the video of this song that is coming now very later and the Jose breaks it there, saved me the video.
Musical juggling
In addition to “Poppin” C-Funk presented a second single as a solo artist a few days ago, “Every Morning Smile”. He says that although he has no plans to release a new album, his idea is to present a new song per month. “It’s a challenge,” he says.
A challenge that adds to the of continuing to make music despite the difficulties of the pandemic. In addition to his solo career, C-Funk is a producer of other artists and two years ago joined Chancho in Piedra.
How do you balance your solo career and all your other projects?

You have to make the most of your time. To be a musician in this country and to be able to live moderately well you have to do too many things, few who are lucky enough that with a pure career can sustain a family and the race. With what the Chilean medium pays, artists find it very difficult, practically impossible to shine. To be a middle-class musician, you have to do them all.
How has the pandemic affected you?

Strong, I’ve been just as lucky that I had productions scheduled and the people I’m working with have kept their commitments. And, on the other hand, you have to reinvent yourself. I’ve been recording for artists, also the prices you charge have to adapt them to the current reality of people, so it’s not that simple. But you just have to hit it. I feel lucky, even though it’s hard I know there are people who are worse off, so I can’t be crying so much either.
How do you glimpse the future?

I find it difficult, but I see that here the one who reinvents himself is going to survive, the one who won’t suffer much. The good thing is that music naturally has its space. It’s crazy because I feel that there’s not much respect for the arts in general in this country, artists don’t have any kind of social security. But still people make their way to music because they can’t be without music. I hope that this will be noted and that in time we will see a commitment on the part of the country, of governments and of people, with their music.
