Volvo devised a system that allows the steering wheel and driving position to be moved entirely to the driver’s liking. This way you could handle located left, center or right. It is an invention that would work through cables and is designed for the autonomous vehicles of the future. In this way, when the driver has to assume control he could do so from any position. This system was patented by Volvo and describes a “vehicle that has multiple driving positions” thanks to a steering wheel that is mounted on a rail that extends throughout the width of the cab.

The gear shift and seats would also be mounted on a rail for travel. In addition, you could place the driving position in the center and hide the steering wheel when the driver’s attention is not needed. As for the pedals, Volvo indicated that they could be by pressure sensitive pads, hydraulically or pneumatically operated sensors. They would be installed along the floor of the vehicle and the system would automatically activate those on the side of the steering wheel. For now it is only patented and there are no indications of production, but it would also help reduce costs as it would adapt to the regulations of any country, only by moving the steering wheel.
