Mexico. – After the controversy he held with Beatriz Gutierrez Muller via social media, chef Daniel Ovadia Chertorivski mentioned all the questions about the closure of his restaurant and the accusations linking him of having received money from the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) during the six-year period of Enrique Peña Nieto.
On September 15th, when Ovadia shared on Twitter an image comparing Gutierrez Muller’s dress to a custard, leading the Grito de Independencia ceremony with her husband President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The chef recounts that he took it as “a funny meme” that was not going to have great relevance, but as the hours passed he began to become trendy and received thousands of messages, mostly with “threats and insults”. Ovadia says that, days later, the actions rose in tone, as he began to receive calls threatening to break glass from his restaurants and violent his staff.
“There began to be a tension that we didn’t understand that a photo or a joke could trigger all this. And that’s where it starts, but fortunately it all stayed on social media and it didn’t happen anymore. Later in the evening, I get a tweet where he says that I received funds from the Conacyt, just as the president was going to make headlines the disappearance of the trusts and because they grab me to say that Daniel Ovadia ‘opened all his restaurants with Conacyt money’ and then they publish a screenshot showing the name of my companies and they start to make sure that I receive public money” , the chef testified before Javier Risco and Gabriela Warkentin.
