President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said it is regrettable that a secretary of the Defense is arrested for links to drug trafficking. He warned that all Sedena officials involved in this matter will be “suspended, withdrawn and if this is the case made available to the authorities.”
“The single signaling of officials, even without completing the process is already going to involve the withdrawal of their positions, so we act with García Luna and so we will act,” the representative said at his morning conference on Friday.
“We’re not going to cover up for anyone, it’s been that long,” he added.
Although he did not want to go ahead and said that “we cannot go ahead on the eve, we cannot make summary judgments, they are legal processes in which accused persons have the right to defense.”
He said Salvador Cienfuegos’ detention in Los Angeles on Thursday night is “an unreleased situation because he is being held on the same charge as Felipe Calderón’s secretary of public safety and now the secretary of defense is arrested during the government of Enrique Peña Nieto. This is an inequivocal sample of decomposition.”
He assured that this also shows how public function in the country was degraded during the neoliberal period. “We are now constanting in depth this decompressed, which was brewing from time ago.”
