Last week in the Jardim S. Guilherme neighborhood of the Paulista municipality of Sorocaba a criminal act of unusual violence, was recorded when a trio of criminals tried to rob a clothing store, the owner responded by shooting and killing all three.
It was Wednesday before noon when the thieves entered the establishment, posing as customers. According to police, they spent several minutes there doing nothing strange. One of them was even talking to the owner, who was on the other side of the counter. However, from one moment to the next, the speaker pulled out a gun and threatened his interlocutor.
With remarkable recklessness, the trader began to approach the criminal, who was walking backwards, surprised by the assault reaction. Taking advantage of the intruder’s bewilderment and doubts, he pulled out a gun and shot him. There was a brief exchange, because the other alsogat his gun, but with bad aim: the bullets passed through the owner’s side and blew up the glass that covered a shelf.
The merchant, on the other hand, caught up with the three criminals with his gun. One of them was kicked after he fell to the ground and police are investigating whether he shot again to finish him off. Then he pulled out his gun and left the premises before the uniforms arrived.
“Two died inside the store and one managed to crawl a few meters outside, but despite the efforts of the SAMU (Emergency Health Care Service), he also died,” he told the portal G1 Acácio Leite, the agent responsible for the investigation.
Authorities identified two of the three men killed. One of them, who was apparently the leader of the gang, was 32 years old and a long list of criminal records. The other was 20 years old and lacked a prontuary.
The owner of the store stayed for a few days on the way. But last Friday he contacted to let us know that he would report to the authorities. He testified for a couple of hours at the civilian police headquarters and was then released. The case was characterized as attempted robbery followed by murder and judicial investigators are analyzing the videos to determine the criminal liability of the trader, who claims to have acted in self-defence.
A 20-year-old assailant’s aunt posted an open letter on Facebook, in which she says her nephew had hanged out with the wrong people and was on the wrong track. “My nephew, we’ll miss you! You were a child raised in the church, you were a good-hearted child, who by weakness or naivety became involved in tortuous paths,” he wrote.
In addition, he dedicates a few words to those who celebrate the deaths of those who delinquer: “Don’t do it, because whatever the person is, there are relatives who are suffering like us right now, remember that no one is free from this (…) I don’t wish this suffering on anyone. Think that one day it might be you who live what we are living now. He was a family boy, he just got his way.”
