translated from Spanish: Committee of Deputies approves consultation on ‘political actors’ of the past

The Committee on the Governance and Population of the Chamber of Deputies approved the provenance and significance of the popular consultation on “political actors” of the past, so now the opinion will be voted on in plenary.
“The minutes with draft decree on popular consultation were adopted with 17 votes in favour (of Morena and its allies), 5 against and 0 abstentions, and referred to the Lower House Board of Directors for legal and regulatory effects,” the CongressIonal Channel report said.
The document that came to the Committee is the one that had been approved earlier by the Senate. It confirms that the consultation is held on Sunday, First August 2021, with the question endorsed by the Supreme Court:
“Do you or do you not agree that the relevant actions, in accordance with the constitutional and legal framework, will be taken to undertake a process of clarifying the political decisions taken in the past years by political actors, aimed at ensuring the justice and rights of potential victims?”
Deputy Felipe Fernando Macías Olvera of the National Action Party expressed his vote against the proposal.
To prosecute the former presidents, he said, “all that is needed is the will to go to make, if there is evidence, a complaint to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”
“To do justice, no consultations are needed,” agreed Deputy Martha Tagle Martínez of The Citizen Movement.
