Journalist Israel Vázquez Rangel was shot in the municipality of Salamanca, Guanajuato, while conducting journalistic coverage.
According to early reports, the attack was recorded on Monday morning in the Villa Salamanca 400 colony, which the journalist attended after having a report on the discovery of human remains.
As Israel prepared to make its cover for the middle El Salmantino was attacked by armed subjects who later fled the site.
The journalist was transferred to a hospital when he had gunshot wounds to his back and abdomen.
So far his health status is unknown.
In a statement, the El Salmantino portal demanded that local, state and federal authorities clarify the crime.
“We strongly condemn the cowardly and heinous attack on our dear companion Israel Vazquez Rangel, who was attacked while doing his honorable journalistic work,” wrote the medium.
They also demanded that the authorities ensure the safety of all the inhabitants of Salamanca and especially that of journalists “who are at risk every day in the performance of this noble work”.
“To all citizens we ask now and more than ever for their support to raise a prayer for our partner and friend (…) From all our team and the family of El Salmantino, we ask for the prompt recovery of our dear friend and thank the citizens for all their shows of solidarity,” he reads.
This attack is recorded just a week after the gunshot murder of journalist Jesús Alfonso Piñuelas in the city of Cajeme, Sonora.
Four days earlier, the journalist and driver of Multimedia, Arturo Alba Medina, was also killed in Chihuahua.
In addition to these are the murders of Jorge Armenta Ovalos, holder of Obson Media in May; and José Castillo Osuna, founder of the information portal Top Priority, both killed in Sonora.
