Valve and Netflix, two of the world’s leading entertainment companies, announced this week an alliance to produce an animated series based on the Dota 2.Dota 2 universe is, after League of Legends, the most popular MOBA on the market, and following in the footsteps of Riot Games, which last year announced an animated series based on the Runeterra universe , Valve partnered with Netflix to bring his own game to the streaming service.
Dota: Dragon Blood will tell the story of Davion, one of the best-known Dragon Knights, and his encounter with Princess Mirana, which will lead to getting involved in a much larger mission than you might have imagined. Davion and Mirana are, of course, characters straight out of the game. Davion is a melee fighter whose special power allows him to become a dragon, and Mirana is an archer who has the ability to become invisible, so adaptation will surely allow her to see those powers in action. Ashley Miller, the showrunner and executive producer of the series, described it as “an emotional epic story aimed at an adult audience” that will feature the presence of many favorite characters from the players. Studio MRI, the team that has already worked with Netflix on the Voltron series and is preparing for The Witcher’s animated spin-off, is in charge of this new project. And true to Valve’s style, the series was announced only weeks before the premiere: the eight episodes of Dota: Dragon Blood will be available on Netflix starting March 25.
