translated from Spanish: Cowhead Lawyer claims FGR lies, US does not investigate

The defender, of the office Canales & Simonson, P.C., detailed that “after reviewing the allegations made by Alejandro Rojas Díaz, Santiago Nieto, and all the evidence available from the governments of the United States and Mexico regarding the accusations made against Mr. Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, I have not found any evidence indicating any violation of the laws”.
“Most of the information cited in the allegations made by Nieto and Díaz Durán is based on newspaper notes containing rumors based on altered state department and FinCEN reports. In my experience as a lawyer, it’s amazing to see n case that lacks direct or substantive evidence that stands at the start of an investigation in Mexico, let alone in the United States,” he said.
According to Tony Canales, in the United States federal prosecutors are prohibited from discussing ongoing investigations. However, he personally verified in Texas Courts of Justice, the Federal Courts, the Department of Justice and other agencies, and “I have not found any pending criminal proceedings against Mr. Francisco J. García Cabeza de Vaca.”

He noted that his client welcomed any investigation, as well as any alleged incriminating evidence against him, and that he had no bank accounts in the United States, nor does he own real estate in that country.
“We affirm that the above evidence does not exist and it will be proved that the UIF, represented by Santiago Nieto, is misuse and falsifying information for political purposes,” he concluded.

On May 10, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) issued a statement inging that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the governor of Tamaulipas and members of his family for alleged money laundering.
The FGR explained that the US authorities notified him of new evidence against Cowhead and three of his relatives, as well as against “various commercial, developer and industrial companies, linked to bank irregularities, illegal money transfers and illicit transactions.”
The Prosecutor’s Office said that such information would be integrated into Mexico’s open investigation folder against the official, for the likely commission of organized crime crimes, operations with resources of illicit origin and equated tax fraud.
